I saw a few people share this promo as an alarming development but there are no references to it outside of a few well-produced videos and maybe two or three websites, mostly linked to the same film producer. No news stories proper, either. So it does look like a well-funded art launch.

I tend to agree with you that it likely is an aspirational video.

But there is a lot of activity in this direction, for example:

Human Embryos WITHOUT HEADS to be grown in artificial wombs.

https://igorchudov.substack.com/p/human-embryos-without-heads-to-be

This "growing designer embryos" idea has obvious military applications also: grow fearless, strong soldiers with identical blood type and organs

I like your use of the word "aspirational." :) And thank you for the link, now I remember reading about it, the organ harvesting project that does not at all "resolve the ethical dilemma," as you astutely noted.

Yes, I found that aspect to be very shocking and cavalier

I added a link to your article. One gotta wonder if the scientists in question have heads themselves...

Expand full comment

well, not the kind've heads we'd wanna be in! (nor walk a mile in their bionic jack boots either!)

What about that Chinese doc that grew twin girls who then was jailed? I've not checked out headless vid yet but I am assuming this is morally and ethically acceptable as spare parts factory because there is no mind or brain? What about heart and soul?

Expand full comment

I think that doctor was formally condemned but it was probably a public relations move. I have a bunch of links (including to CRISPR) here https://tessa.substack.com/p/digital-slavery

To be fair, this is a ditty we've heard since what, the 1920s? And it's always 10-20 years off, but fully possible if the developers could just have a little more money.

Meanwhile, real science has been doing it for a while, using mice an pigs. While fully functioning spare internal organs are a way off if it is at all possible, insulin and ears to name two products are old news.

It's true, tissue engineering does exist. But who knows the long-term effects of using artificially created tissue, I think it is very much a gray area

Yup, ain't a spoof. Only wish it was...

The filmmaker (Dr My-First-Name-Means-God-Frankenstein-in-trainin') is tryin' ta (im-_)"plant" the idear in heads an' mebbe git some "seed" money (sorry, cannot fer the life'a me pass up on a pun, even facin' dystopian nihilism!). He is SINCERE from all I gathered an' indeed the concept is "aspirational"... eeeeeeeeee!

https://scienceandstuff.com/ectolife-artificial-wombs/

Still, the comments are fairly reassurin' -- most folks are not on board with the "Sea Monkey" instant baby system. But then again'--there's a whole BRAVE NEW WORLD 'a young'uns that likely (probably?) would like it... THAT is the scarier thought! Same folks that WANT TO be "chipped" like in Sweden....

Afterthoughts:

1. "mebbe" they ARE already there and this is just "coming attractions" / predictive programmin' to get us "comfy" with this nightmare.. (....it IS incredibly slick--was it DARPA or DOD-funded? This is not a film school student produkt-shun...)

2. as other-worldly horrific as this is... it still has some level of humanity so I had the twisted thought that even THIS would be way too "human" for the likes of Harari....

ps this is Al Ghaili's "linked" page with some of his articles--they are not seemin' ta be satire... I think he may be a nut-job but he wasn't jokin' far as I kin tell by his writin'--

Thank you. I think that this website (the science blog website) has a high probability of being associated with the filmmaker, to make his art promo campaign more convincing. I don't know for sure but I think it's very likely.

https://twitter.com/scienceanstuff (joined twitter in October 2022).

It's impossible to know what he is thinking and whether he believes in all this but he is definitely promoting his work, and partnering with organizations that push for the same agenda, etc. So, a bit of a mystery but I think it is all about his film and maybe whatever other predictive programming agendas

You don't really have to be very sophisticated in biotech to see this as sheer fantasy.

We as a species don't have anything like this technology. Far from it.

So, yeah. Hoax or spoof.

The sad thing is how many are conditioned by "entertainment" media to think this is plausible. Like Yuval Harari isn't just talking out his ass. Taking these people seriously is already a bridge too far. They're just con artists.

I tend to think it’s megalomania. The elite fantasy that they can conquer and control nature. It’s the delusion that they can attain godlike power.

Expand full comment

Hilarious as a satire with lots of woke detail. But creepy as Brave New World. If we succeed we will preempt this and get back to nature, which some of us never left.

Absolutely!!

Sometimes it seems the popular fascination with dystopia has led some to imagine that nightmares can be conceived as good things…

One can only hope this goes nowhere.

It is a spoof and the narrative is from someone detached from the life processes. From the video:

“… is designed to replicate the exact conditions that exist inside the mother’s womb …. “

Here we reached bottom in all counts: ignorance, stupidity, imagination, thinking, reasoning, …

They ‘think’ that can create new life!

Joke:

Year 2256 in a lab some scientist decided to have a discussion with God, and went like this:

“Hey old man, we know how to make humans finally, so you can retire”

God: “ohhh my, thank you my children, what a relief! Can I watch you make the first one?”

Scientists: “Oh yes, just watch us.”

So the scientists prepared the lab first and went outside and started howling a wheelbarrow full of mud in to the lab.

God: “What are you having there may I ask?”

Scientists: “Oh, just some mud we need to start.”

God: “Go make your own mud, this is mine.”

The moral of the story: “Don’t polish your ignorance, it may shine! “

That is such a great joke!!

Tessa, actually apart from the joke, with all our rocket technology and all our megalomania that we can make anything, we do NOT know how to make soil!

Zone???

I missed that one. Notably, in Russian, the word for "zone" also means prison.

I noticed that too!

Yep. It's much easier for population control fans to govern, when tth cattle are all in specified paddocks. Smart cities aE where they want people to gravitate, willingly or not.

It is predictive programming.

The skin-suit-wearers have been doing this sort of thing ever since mass media was created (see radio's "War of the Worlds").

Maybe it'll entice those who've already had both their brains and their souls surgically removed. Real humans need not apply.

The Matrix anyone?

Looks fabricated. CGI. Who really knows. The scientists of the elite may have some sort of test tube baby lab going on. Lets pray they do not succeed. Playing god may just bring Gods wrath.

They have AI art now. This seems like an AI plan for the future.

Hi Tessa,

No doubt, some of the technology is up to snuff ... but as soon as I heard CRISPR allows customizing 'level of intelligence' ... I knew (and knew that you knew) this was just science fiction, if not yet another version of Theranos.

We have no idea what 'intelligence' actually is, much less reduce it to one of 300 genes. Nonsense, with convincing computer graphics. On the other hand, I have no doubt there is ongoing research to create a weaponized version of this.

I couldn't agree more. On the other hand, eugenicists are very ambitious people!!

Expand full comment

Yep. As many are just now discovering, and many more still don't know ... eugenicists have no qualms about killing or culling, and with blunt, indiscriminate, efficiency.

I suspect the technology is a "nothing," but it's a nothing that could be eligible for military funding because of its future potential. Frankly, the concept is pretty error prone both short term and long term. It's probably a lot easier (and less expensive) to imprison (financially or physically) healthy women and impregnate them with embryos from specific donors or some clone factory. We know how this works.

The like is in agreement with you but the topic is so appalling! The notion of forced slave conception is so awful (and sadly, it has been done both to African slaves in America and probably to slaves in many other places, and it was also been done by the Nazis to prisoners, for experimentation. Human beings are capable of such crap!!!

Imagine a free, not enslaved by her life situation, who is willing to have her womb used for someone else's baby. In a country where women can be coerced into such action by financial problems is a country where those women are slaves to the political and economic systems.
