Dear Tessa, you have stolen a march on me, I've been contemplating an essay on just this phenomenon! Brava! We must free ourselves from the nonsense of no-nothing celebrities and the aspirations to become 'one' of their ilk!

So true. In the United States, it is illegal for a local municipality to pass any ordinance that goes against state or federal ruling (and corporate interests rule both of those). Despite very nice pretences and flags flying everywhere, we don't have a say in how things go. Until those policies change, our energies are bound tightly.

This celebrity obsession is the same as where people tend to follow who is the "leader" of society.

That's why people in white coats were blindly trusted.

They made them into celebrities with dancing tik tok videos 😂

They keep us down by constant shocks, but some of us notice the shocks quicker and get angry.

Of course it is very difficult to only pay attention to truth and turn away from the deceivers
