You write so beautifully of your journey Tessa. I want you to know you inspire me to be a better person, and even give me some tools to make it happen.
When I read this I think of how the world I was born into (Capitalist! The Good Guys!) is a complete inversion of yours, at least in this one way. I was raised to think only of myself, never of others. "There's no such thing as society" and all that. Take take take all that you can and spend your way to happiness. It's a war of all against all so ABC - always be competing - and if you're not winning then it's your fault for not giving your soul to your job.
One lie that we are told here is that one of the most popular books ever - 1984 - was exclusively about communism. It wasn't. Orwell himself said he was inspired by two books - "We", which everyone knows, but also the lesser known "The Iron Heel." (Two guesses which one the 'boot stepping on a human face forever' image came from.) Another favourite classic, Brave New World, was also said by Huxley to be a world where communism and capitalism have merged. Kind of like now - Corporate Totalitarianism.
Sorry, I get carried away with abstractions sometimes and I am rambling. Just wanted to say how different, yet same, things were growing up here. As Roszak said in the 1960's, capitalism and communism are presented as polar opposites but are really more alike than different - industrial, material, technocratic, and completely divorced form the past, from nature, from the spiritual ...
I think I was a sacrifice at one time, thanks for reminding me we're not. It's backward but I find it easier to talk about what's wrong with the world than about all the good I have known - mystical love of nature, discovering God and deep time, becoming a better person. I will have to work on that.
Love, Tessa. Keep doing what you're doing. I will fight robots too, by remaining an embodied human spirit. (And when this life is done, I'll come back and do it again., and again, and again... Just like I always have:)
Wow, Jeff, thank you so much for your comment! I think different isms try to eat people differently but to the same effect.. I wrote something about it a while ago, in case you find it interesting https://tessa.substack.com/p/isms
Yes, very interesting. So much resonates and so much I could say but I would need a 10 000 word essay to get it all out, and even then I'd only just be getting started. Another time.
For now I'll just say one thing that gives me hope: In spite of tens of centuries of "civilization," there's a fully alive pagan inside each and every one of us just waiting to be set free. So glad I listened to my inner shaman and somehow knew it was more real than any worldview I'd been hypnotized into, even when I was confused and trying to live inside the machine. I think that's why your story moves me so deeply - it's like all the details are totally different, yet the theme, the song if you will, is the same.
True happiness is not a destination to aim for but a path to follow.
I feel like society was around the age of 12, but nowadays they seem like teenagers going through adolescence. That's the time where we build our own ego to stand up against what we do not want from others.
In regards to what other's opinion is of you, take the words of Mark Twain to heart, "It's none of my business". Do no harm, be happy and love as much as you possibly can.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences on this topic. It is useful; if we did just as you suggest, it can help with the 'shift'. There is more - each of us will discover these things as is right for the individual.
They need us; we do not need them. Hardship will be experienced yet, if we maintain a strong connection to our soul and Creator throughout, we will still be able to smile.
It's extraordinary reading this as I realised this same thing in my own life just the other night after spending time with my mother, its been a 30yr journey that covid as also helped bring to this point by pushing my separation to breaking point. I have no soviet reference but I recognise that same force. I suspect it is christian guilt as i grew up in the UK within the boarding school/miltary world and with strong christian influences. That phrase about relationships being the (I forget) and the executioner, this is how these people I grew up with expect relationships to be you are either one of the other be it friends, parent/child, siblings, relatives it is all pervasive and exhausting apart from with those who have also managed to fall out of the system.
This is my reaction of first reading, I actually can hardly believe I've read what you've written. It's a parallel and it's so comforting. Going to reread and follow the references.
'If everything around you seems dark, look again, you may be the light' - Rumi
By the way you do write beautifully, thanks for sharing your thoughts, it clarifies many a thing from a Westerner's point of view/programming living on a more Easternly programmed plot of land, Grüß Gott.
This is a fabulous article explaining a mechanism that is prevalent throughout the System (still) and as you've illustrated, showcased so dramatically during the reign of the Soviet Union. Great work Tessa and thanks for your thoughtfulness, courage and great vulnerability 😍
much as empathy was weaponized in the plandemic, it's still being weaponized in american public schools. maybe they're using the soviet model. this is someone has really gone down the rabbit hole and shows how gradeschool students' individuality is being crushed even more than usual by "social emotional learning" aka SEL which obama rolled out about 10 years ago. she comes to some conclusions that i don't but the info is good https://lisalogan.substack.com/p/social-emotional-learning-creating
karen bracken has been on the front lines against SEL for years, you can download all this stuff
My feeling as of this second that the not-so-well-intended individuals who are hard at work trying to do bad things WANT us to stay glued to thoughts about how dark and powerful they are. They WANT stories zooming in the plot of horror because, it seems, by the time any particular story is allowed, they are onto something else, and it's just smoke.
i have greatly eased up on "horror analysis." It is good to have situational awareness. But here is the paradox. "Explaining" how dark things are done, in a way, legitimizes them in our minds. It could be a necessary first baby step in understanding but my own views on this have evolved. The way I feel now, after 4.5 years of this, is that it is sufficient to establish that yet, there is transhumanism, yes, there is an attempt to perpetuate slavery, etc. etc. but so what do we do about it? And the only way that, I think has a chance of actually pushing back beyond shaking our fists inside an echo chamber, is looking on the inside and asking ourselves: who are we? what we were born to do? what is it that the loving spirits are trying to tell us by creating this circumstance for us? if we do that, we move forward. If we just explain bad stuff to our own echo chamber back and forth, it turns into a self-fulfilling prophecy (aided by the people who merely pretend to be truth tellers).
In other words, the way out, the way I see it, is on another planet from how all this is mainly talked about. And of course, we all choose how we want to think and what we want to feel, etc...
"Explaining" how dark things are done, in a way, legitimizes them in our minds." 🎯
yes! in a way, even directing our attention there feeds the beast. and we shouldn't do that because we are the beast's exclusive prey, if we stop feeding it with our attention and energy then it dies. thanks for calling me out on that and i plead guilty,
yet i do sincerely want to understand how the beast system works for very practical reasons!
Wonderful as ever. You take us right there like few can.
And a great bonus learning about the origin of "vampire". This is a strong theme I'm slowly waking up to. Relatedly: ever check out the origin of the word "weird"? It referred to women with the power to shape destiny. Until it didn't.
Healthy communities promote healthy cooperation - actions for the good of others and the community, and healthy competition, actions that benefit the individual. Life progresses when cooperation and competition are in balance and in harmony that all participants benefit.
However, humans are not a beehive or an anthill. We live in many communities, social, political, legal, religious, scientific, and many others. We live in layers of layers of layers of communities. Each community can be seen as an individual - with more or less power depending on its size and influence on specific issues. Each community must also find a balance of cooperation and competition to benefit the larger whole.
When one community, or one group of communities - like the government, the church, or the "party" attempts to rule all the others, the overall system is failing.
I see the kid with the field of flowers and my mind plays the Wicked With of the West saying "Poppies, Poppies" into her conjuring ball.
And after that I can see how the transition from Sovietism (if I may) to (Tibetan) Buddhism could have been facilitated by the first-noble-truth of each being, "the nature of life is suffering".
I also have clear memories from about 10 months of age, and recall exactly what words my grandmother and grandfather said, how they said them slowly and clearly, and how they acted in those vignettes. They were speaking clearly for me to understand, and they did fine, but I couldn't talk, though I COULD walk and climb bamboo blinds to the top...
..And, you are more naturally empathic than I am. Maybe you are an Enneagram-Type-9... maybe, or maybe not. You must determine:
I believe the soul is the pure essence of the Creator inside the human body. Goodness and love are the foundation of soul. I believe we can sync our bodies to vibrate in the frequency of the soul. Our brain (think) and our heart (emotion) exist to help achieve harmony with the vibration of soul. When we lose control (or are forced to relinquish control) of the heart (emotion) and brain (think) by exterior, evil forces, we can no longer move towards harmony with the vibration of the soul. This is where we become the sacrifice or self-sacrifice tools of darkness-- Satan, Devil, et al. There is no darkness when we are in sync with the soul, as the Creator is light and love. Much of humanity is enveloped by darkness, by choice or by force. We cannot help those plunged into darkness unless we are in sync, in harmony with light and love. First, heal yourself. How do we heal? I don't have a short, sweet answer, but I don't believe it can be done without control of your thoughts and emotions. The brain and heart must be put to work for the soul. The Devil will constantly bombard you with false emotion, bad thoughts to keep you from vibrating in harmony with the soul. So, at least to begin with, you must ignore, immunize yourself from the constant distraction. Good luck. Remember you can't be in the light if you are immobilized by the darkness. Now is a good time to begin.

Lol, I thought about the poppies and the fact that this photo is probably staged for Instagram but the natural joy of the kid seems indestructible!

To respond to your writing it seems I'd have to write a poem.
It's too sad though and I don't want to make you cry.
You don't have to do anything but if you are compelled to write a poem, please do! I reassure you, you cannot make me cry :-)
That isn't the poem that was I was originally thinking. Shorter and maybe a little more fun. I can certainly say that I've never read anything quite like that that you wrote. You think on many levels.

Or not
