On page 222 of David C. Korten's book, "Agenda for a New Economy," there's a quote by Howard Zinn (read it carefully, because it matters greatly): "There's a tendency to think that what we see in the present will continue. We forget how often we have been astonished by the sudden crumbling of institutions, extraordinary changes in people's thoughts, 'unexpected eruptions of rebellion against tyrannies' (emphasis added), and the quick collapse of systems of power that seemed invincible."
May I insist that you grab a copy of this invaluable book soon? And for that matter, especially read Chapter 16: WHEN THE PEOPLE LEAD, THE LEADERS WILL FOLLOW, from pages 222 to 232.
I have a lot of hope, but the timeframe greatly depends on when people choose to wake up to their senses. My hope is happy yet realistic. :) A much better world is available immediately, but it's unknown when a lot of people choose to expel bad habits and strive to be their best with humility and love.
The late French philosopher, Michel Foucault (1926-1984), is credited with saying the following: "Just like prospects, no matter how serious a given situation, there are always different options for action and change, although very limited in some cases. Foucault's position is that to ignore unjust practices within the social body is to tolerate and perpetuate their existence, thus condemning a whole section of the population to despair. Although there are always multiple social and historical constraints, there is always a way to change these constraints – namely, a margin of freedom. Foucault therefore assumes that people will always seek to modify the actions of others. In short, to wield power - but that assumes, at the same time, that people will resist such attempts. To quote Foucault, if only for the last time, and in doing so, paraphrasing him (of course!), in connection with the homo Deus of a Schwab or a Harari(*): "How does it mean that in Western Christian culture, the government of men demands of those who are led not only acts of obedience and submission, but also acts of truth? This requires not only that the subject tell the truth, but that he tell the truth about himself, his faults, his desires and the state of his soul (harari*)... And so on? (Michel Foucault, 1926-1984)
The entirey of Foucault's writings can be summed as:
A homosexual bourgeois french academic trying to come to terms with his shame and guilt over his urges toards pederasty/pedophilia, and therefore inventing a rationaising framework for the alleviating of any guilt or responsibility.
and:
A re-write bordering on plagiarism of De Sade's "La philosophie dans le boudoir", the parts where Dolmance is lecturing his coterie.
The only value Foucault and his ilk have is as an example of intellectual cowardice, moral relativism and ontological nihilism.
Luc: We are to seek solace in the words of the post-structuralists? Was Foucault a pedophile? My understanding is that he did in fact advocate that adults could have sex with minors. And that post-structuralism provides the foundation for his rationalization. I'll take a pass on looking for inspiration from Howard Zinn and Foucault.
As a scholar, I gave my stance on today's challenges.
I don't know if Foucault was a pedophile, and (matter of fact) I won't try to find out either. I'm just giving his stance after the political events he witnessed in the sixties... Operation Gladio in Italy, I might add too.
Howard Zinn is not to be despised or ignored when he is right about the historical turning of events.
A Merry Christmas and/or Season's Greetings to you Luc ... and Tessa. I needed to hear that message of hope from you.
At 67, without family, and ending a 40 year career in Japan ... I am not so optimistic. I've experienced what is happening at the world scale, but for decades and on a personal, micro-fractal level. But your words, and the words of Foucault (I've read more about him than his work directly) and Zinn (I have read, and love) have the ring of truth to them.
And kudos for the grace with which you handled that embarrassingly blunt ad-hominen / guilt by association 'critique'.
I've just been looking at Blessed Unrest by Paul Hawken, talking about that leaderless movement. And I agree about the hope and yet those movements were fostering young Greta Thunbergs, who might be akin to these two youngsters spouting their hatred for anyone who doesn't agree with them. I see hope in the people who are walking away from all the movements and thinking and admitting they could be wrong. I agree that everything can change quickly and maybe without needing an outward rebellion. Maybe with a contagious change of heart.
Luc: I've come to understand that Howard Zinn was a Marxist; nevertheless, he surely had useful insights into the sweep of history. I always kept his book, "The People's History of the United States" in a a prominent and accessible place in my classroom (at a time when I thought the leftists were the good and righteous political force. I no longer feel this way).
During the Great Recession I was an Admin at the Doomstead Diner website. We talked about how, as the bankers were given the keys to the kingdom instead of rounded up and jailed, the next bubble would be bigger than all the previous bubbles combined. Also aware that humanity was running headlong into resource constraints, we tried to imagine all the ways in which humans would go insane rather than face it honestly.
Tessa: I am retired and live on a small pension, so am unable to become a paid subscriber, but I deeply appreciate what you do. What is currently horrifying is the Omnibus spending bill before Congress. It is HORRIFYING. What it will do, among other things, is fully fund child trafficking at the U.S./Mexico border. Putin is no angel, far from it, but he was correct when he said that we (Americans) are becoming the Soviet Union (centralizing control of everything). Please, everyone listen to this analysis of the Omnibus spending bill (it will tie Congress' hands for all of 2023):
Tessa, have you heard that WEF just said that "you'll own nothing and you'll be happy" is "Russian disinformation," despite the fact that it appeared on their OWN WEBSITE??? ROFL
Just wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas from Japan, Tessa — before another beer puts me under the table. You are among a growing number of inspirations for keeping up the good fight. 🎄
Thank you Tessa. It is only special people like you that would want to make me come back to America ... but for now, we have our digital hugs. Merry Christmas Tessa ... and may Santa bring us a thousand lumps of coal ... so we can throw 'em at the bankers' windows. 😂
I remember my outrage somewhere around Y2K when they wouldn't let you send thorium in the mail any more. There went all the vacuum-tubes with thoriated tungsten filaments - POOF! Couldn't get 'em any more. Fortunately, I had enough, already.
Another heart-worming tale of helping Santa from Truthful Tony :-)
Excellent collection and offering, she of the anti robot league. As I have many <~~>most of your offerings I have rebloged at Unorthodox Truths / michaelburgwin3.com. Keep on!
In item #2, the Moderna CEO answers the question about lack of clinical trials for the booster by using the same old "speed of science" excuse. You know, "We were in a terrible pandemic, we had to get the shots out to everybody ASAP, no time to lose, etc." This is a bit like a car manufacturer saying, "We had to get the new model out for the 2022 year, no time to test the brakes, so what if some people die?"
I wish to impress upon you some hope.

Thank you, Luc, I'll check out the book!

Sir,
You do as you please.
As a scholar, I gave my stance on today's challenges.
I don't know if Foucault was a pedophile, and (matter of fact) I won't try to find out either. I'm just giving his stance after the political events he witnessed in the sixties... Operation Gladio in Italy, I might add too.

Google? Please . . .

You are indeed right about this.

Yes, yes, yes!
It ain’t over till the fat lady sings and we are all very skinny and hungry here!
Never stop the fight, never give up.🙏❤️
Thanks so much!

Indeed. The Frankfurt School of thought is also something to stay away from. Luc
If you "stay away" from knowledge, you become defenseless against someone using that knowledge against you.
Study marxism just as you would any other subject: analytically, critically and always comparing the theory to how it looks when put into practice.
To study something does not mean agreeing with or wanting to make the studied subject reality.

We had no idea how insane....
The images need no comment!!! Used one in my latest depop article with a h/t. Awesome stuff!
Thank you, Igor!!! I wish I could just pinch myself and wake up. :)
So much for la belle province... where I spent half my life. Sickening.
The Fauci story was sad, but it kind of makes sense based on who Santa is.
I can also relate information as well:
This Just in "Fauci on Naughty List for Lying."
Another great stack, thank you
Thank you Sarah!! xo

I have not heard the Russian disinformation part!! It's pretty bold of them to say that :)
This is like the FBI saying that the Twitter Files detailing their relationship with Twitter is also misinformation.
That, now, is DEFINITELY misinformation. How do we know? Because they never lie. :)
We know this because it wouldn't be FBI but rather FIB.
Just wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas from Japan, Tessa — before another beer puts me under the table. You are among a growing number of inspirations for keeping up the good fight. 🎄

:) Happy Holidays to you, John!! xoxo
We had the big Mexican-American family Christmas-Eve party in San Antonio last night, so today is a day off.
Merry Christmas to you, Sister Tessa. Here is a fun Christmas song we found on the drive to San Antonio yesterday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARq6uYSsUq0
At least please tell me that that Fauci video was dug up from 2020 or 2021, and is not new?
Yes, it's an old one, it this is any relief. :))
