Let me address the question about why I am not putting my energy into covering the elections that are the most important elections of our times … again.
I have a principle that before I write about something, I think it through like an honest five-year-old child—and if it still feels useful, either in terms of novelty or in terms of impact, I write about it, otherwise I sit it out (and feel no FOMO whatsoever as I sit it out).
In this case, I think it is mostly or completely theater. I do like Bobby as a human being (while mourning his stance on Israel / Palestine) but I still think that the procedure itself is mostly or completely theater. And in the light of that opinion, I place my relationship to the Spirit and my desire for clarity above the fleeting hike in “togetherness” around the not-so-authentic causes that … somehow …. inevitably …. suddenly …. just go south.
Yes, we feel a real togetherness around political figures occasionally because our souls want to feel good about something, and this is the best we have at time. And I get it, and I’ve been there. But I believe that our power is in clarity and in not being afraid to face what is. And I think that “what is” is that we are on our own here. And, holding that opinion, I don’t want to exploit political anxieties or to blow ineffective smoke. I don’t want to exploit it in any direction, in any way!
Which is to say, as much as like togetherness and truly need more subscribers, as a writer, I don’t want to yank people’s hearts back and forth for the sake of emotional “freedom buck.” That would not be right. If I thought differently, it would be a different story, but this is what I think, so…. The elections day will come and go, hopefully there will still be peace, and the challenges we are facing today will still be there… Yes? No?
Now, some of my friends are heavily into these upcoming elections, and because they are sincere about it, I have no problem with their electoral plights. Me, however, I don’t think that at this moment in time, we are making a meaningful difference in this troubled, aching world of ours by making a wish upon a piece of paper that goes inside a mysterious machine that can be, among other things, hacked by a child (just sayin’). I just don’t think that this is the most productive use of our emotional power.
Some may feel differently, we can still have a cup of tea together and get along regardless of how much weight each of us puts on this kind of game. But as far as choosing where to spend our energy, I think that the people who want to control the world are laughing loudly at our well-intended attempts to change the world by making a wish on a piece of paper that goes into a mysterious machine, while the real battle is happening on a different planet from all this altogether, while all this is just a game.
By the way, we do have the power to change this world! We do! We do! Our power is about how we manage our energy, how we interact with the world around us in the everyday. Our ability to create change effectively has to do with our internal clarity, courage, and love, our connection to the Spirit, it has to and how we enact our clarity, courage, and love in the world. It has to do with our worthy, mighty souls.
Everything that exists is energy. If the troubled, wounded, cruel thieves fail at twisting people’s arms into acting like traitors or like their dejected food, the thieves will have to run for the woods. And so, our power lies in refusing to feed into the energy patterns that they had set in motion to steal from all. That is a longer conversation but I hope it makes some sense. If you are into the elections, go for it, I will give you a hug with joy because of you, not because of what politics you like. But as far as my own views, I can’t pretend.
I will end this story with an image from my favorite children’s film of all times. The crown-wearing man is the evil character who wins only when people agree to be bullied, tricked by fear, and to throw other people under the bus. (I got an electoral propaganda brochure in my mailbox the other day, and the brochure characters’ facial expressions reminded me of that children’s tale.)
In the children’s tale, courage won the day. The three-headed dragon was turned into a three-headed goat, the loveless ruler was captured, and the good people regained their freedom and joy. May we use our courage—and sure, do whatever we want about wishing upon a piece of paper …. but also remember that the saviors we are looking for are us. And, I feel, the Spirit has our back and wants our love and courage to win.
I understand that my reference to the Russian children’s film may be cryptic unless you grew up over there but it really is one of the most amazing children’s stories ever told. In the USSR, where propaganda was brutal (like here), and where spiritual stories were outright banned, film makers did wonders by conveying their messages in the form of children’s tales.
There is always courage. There is always love. The aspiring masters have been controlling and abusing us for a long time, that time is ending now. But we need to face what is and step up, as us.
A note to readers: If you are in the position to do so, I very much encourage you to become a paid subscriber or donate. I love you in any case, but it helps A LOT, and I am in a dire need to get more donations and paid subscribers while keeping my posts free. Thank you from my heart for your support!
Don't vote....it just encourages them (Mencken)
But seriously, it's pretty clear that the puppet masters will be pulling the strings either way. It probably makes little difference who gets elected. I'm Canadian so I can't vote in the US election. If I did, I'd vote for Trump just because I can tolerate big talking boisterous people who just swing for the fences, and consequences be damned. Anybody who changes her accent depending upon who she's addressing is shamelessly currying favour.....trying too hard.....and this comes across as cringeworthy and pathetic.
Just remember that they all lie and they don't give a shit about you. Tessa is right. Don't invest too much emotional energy into this. There are better ways to expend energy than picking one side over another in a very dirty fight. It's kind of like choosing which person is going to kick you in the face.
You know it's going to hurt either way.
In Canada it's easy. We all hate Trudeau and we're all looking forward to kicking him out hard in the next election. We don't even care what the alternative is anymore. That's how toxic this guy has become to Canadians. We elected a haircut and a smile on a man with the brain of a duck. Calling Trudeau stupid is an insult to stupid people.
Amen. Even in a strictly practical sense, the Electoral College means that only a few thousand voters in a few states have the power to change the meaningless outcome. Media recognize this when they talk about polls.. The politicians know this for sure. They only campaign in those few states, and don't bother appealing to the other 95% of the people. Despite this obvious and hardly secret fact, everyone still believes the myth that each vote matters.
