Worse, these same cyclists compete at La Vuelta a España (Tour of Spain) every year. Starting in mid-August. I'm pretty certain it's hotter in Spain in August than in France in July....
These people are used to all kind of extremes. There are now tours in Australia, in southern US, everywhere, from freezing to boiling. I saw an article from 100 years ago yesterday where there was mention of a heat wave with similar temperatures as now. Nothing new under the sun.
