I don't necessarily think these were the same people. I am more inclined to think that the discarded masks in parking lots at shopping centers were those by the "move along to get along" folks. They were the ones who bought a box of masks out of compliance and discarded them as soon as they exited the building. I kept the same mask that was given to me somewhere near the beginning of the pandemic.
The beauty of the mask is you could not tell the difference. Who were those that were forced to wear the mask? Who "went along to get along?" Who were the "faithfully masking?" It's not hard to tell the difference now because mainly only the faithful wear the mask at this point.
I saw (in the past year or so) a man who was walking in the street in a mask, carrying a cup of coffee and a brown sandwich bag. He stopped by my building, put his coffee and sandwich bag on top of the (rather unsanitary) garbage bin, fixed whatever he needed to fix, and went on. I was horrified to see his coffee on top of a garbage bin, it looked like if there is a way to get a bug, that would be it. I didn't say anything obviously because he was not asking for my opinion, but I thought thoughts.
