Jenin Younes is amazing, courageous, smart, articulate. We are so fortunate to have her working to uphold civil liberties in the US. I have given up on the ACLU. Where we they when the worst violation of civil liberties since the draft was enacted by the Biden administration with the vaccine mandates?
Sadly, the ACLU was busy normalizing medical conversion "therapy" for mostly gay/bi youth ... telling kids who don't conform to regressive gender stereotypes that they may be born in the wrong body and need to become lifelong medical patients, with bone density loss, cancer risks, and much regret later for many. Yep, give up on the ACLU ...
I well remember ACLU even supported the mandates. That was the first organization I looked to when the gene jab mandates came down— what a total pile of shale.
I well remember how it seemed as one after the other fell. So many... I even got an invite to a reading from a poet who, for years, held herself up as some great beacon of freedom with a prominent role in a writers organization that, supposedly, stood for free speech. Her reading was in a church (!!) and it was for vaxxed only. As I type this, I'm laughing. (Am I trapped in a Monty Python movie?)
Love this conversation! Such good points made ... Yes, the abuses of power now are downstream from what was done to the covid dissidents (who were right). And the January 6'ers who were denied due process. And all of it's wrong.
It's one thing to deport someone who has directly done something violent, but Khalil seems like the opposite of the unhinged crazy protestor. And it would set a terrible precedent.
Grateful there are wise folks like you, Celia Farber, Matt Taibbi, Michael Schellenberger, Glenn Greenwald, who stand up for free speech consistently. The mainstream media has no credibility, but that shouldn't give Trump, et all, a pass. TDS-free discerning criticism is so needed.
I'm sorry I haven't joined the Friday calls in way too long. I think about it every week and there's always something, or so tired. Hope to see you soon in either the virtual or physical world!
